Rose Carmel is happy to welcome Jane Reiman to our community! Jane was Carmel’s first two-term mayor, serving from 1980-1987. During her time as mayor, she worked to update Carmel’s infrastructure and began planning Civic Square, now home to City Hall and the police and fire departments. She was also instrumental in restricting development along Keystone Parkway. Prior to her time as mayor, Jane served on Carmel’s first ever city council and helped lead the effort to block construction of a racetrack proposed at the existing Kohl’s site north of 146th Street.
A native of Toronto, Canada, Jane moved to Carmel in the late 1960s. She has two daughters, Catherine and Leslie, and five grandchildren. Since leaving office, she has worked at a childcare center, spent time helping to take care of her grandchildren, and worked part-time for the city. Jane remains active in her church and recently celebrated her 90th birthday.
